What is LASIK Surgery & Why Choose The Silk Vision LASIK Eye Center?
LASIK, or "laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis," is a specialized procedure to correct common vision problems, including nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), astigmatism, and presbyopia.
Like other types of refractive surgery, the LASIK procedure reshapes the cornea, allowing the light that enters the eye to be properly focused on the retina for clearer vision. Patients benefit from improved vision and reduced (or eliminated) dependence on prescription eyeglasses and/or contact lenses.
LASIK is the most popular laser eye surgery to correct common vision problems. The procedure is short, the recovery is quick, and the results are almost immediate. After visiting our LASIK eye center, you could see with 20/20 vision.

Is LASIK right for you?

Laser Vision Correction
As you age, your near vision will naturally begin to deteriorate as the lens in your eye starts to harden. The most common reading vision correction treatments include bifocal glasses, contact lenses, and reading glasses. But these solutions may not work for all patients, especially those with extremely high myopic prescriptions or individuals who need near vision support. At Silk Vision & Surgical Center, we offer permanent vision correction surgery.
Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK)
Photorefractive Keratectomy, or PRK, is a laser vision correction procedure that can help correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. In some cases, PRK can be used to treat presbyopia with a special technique that allows one eye to be corrected for nearsightedness and the other eye to be corrected for farsightedness.
What Is PRK?
PRK is a laser surgery that reshapes the front of the cornea to more effectively focus light onto the macula. It can be done on one eye or both eyes but is usually performed on only one eye at a time. This is because the surgeon accesses the cornea by removing the thin outer layer of the cornea called the epithelium. This regenerates quickly, but vision can remain blurry during this time.
Who Should Get PRK?
Photorefractive Keratectomy is a good option for patients with thin corneas who may not have enough thickness for a traditional corneal flap to be created with a laser or microkeratome. It’s also ideal for patients in the military, martial arts, and sports who are at an increased risk of sustaining a blow to the face and eye area. This could cause a LASIK flap to dislodge, whereas PRK surgery allows the cornea to regenerate back to its intact state.
Silk Vision & Surgical Center offers patients suffering from serious and debilitating vision problems permanent surgical solutions that help them achieve the clearest possible visual acuity. LASIK Alternatives
What Is Lens Replacement Surgery?
Lens replacement surgery is a minimally invasive vision correction procedure that replaces the eye’s natural lens with an artificial clear lens in the patient’s prescription. It is essentially identical to cataract surgery and patients who have had lens replacement surgery will not need cataract surgery later in life since the natural lens has already been replaced.
Who Should Get Lens Replacement Surgery?
Lens replacement surgery to correct near vision may be a good option for patients around the age of 40 or older who have experienced a reduction in the quality of their near vision. Patients who are not good candidates for LASIK or other types of surgery to correct reading vision may still be able to obtain permanent vision correction with lens replacement surgery.

Frequently asked questions about LASIK eye surgery
We encourage our LASIK eye center patients to ask many questions about our LASIK vision center. We believe that patient education and transparency is crucial to ensuring a positive experience, and we are here to help our patients navigate the decision to get LASIK.
We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions about LASIK and laser vision correction to help assist your journey to clearer vision. If you have inquiries for us that aren’t on this list, we encourage you to contact us or request an appointment.
What can I expect my vision to be like after LASIK eye surgery?
At our center we will do everything we can to ensure you have a great come and seeing as well as possible. 98% of our patients achieve 20/20 vision or better which is far above the national average.
Does LASIK correct astigmatism?
Absolutely. Astigmatism is when the shape of the cornea is slightly uneven and LASIK is a great option to help correct this.
I have been told my eyes are dry and could not have LASIK. Is this correct?
Patients who have dry eyes should be treated first before undergoing LASIK. If a patient still has dryness despite undergoing treatment then we will not recommend LASIK but potentially another alternative such as Visian implantable contact lens (ICL).
I was told my cornea is too thin for LASIK. Is this true?
In order to safely undergo LASIK the cornea (i.e. the part of your eye that we will be operating on) needs to have a certain level of thickness. This is the one of the things we check during your evaluation at our LASIK vision center.
If your cornea is too thin for LASIK, PRK or Visian implantable contact lens may be a better option for you.
What kind of laser technology does Silk Vision and Surgical Center use?
We offer all laser LASIK also known as bladeless LASIK. These lasers are very precise and accurate. The lasers, like cell phones, are frequently updated and we use the most current and advanced technology on the market.
The advanced equipment and technology in our LASIK Suite.
How long does LASIK correction last?
LASIK eye surgery will last many years and possibly the entire life for the majority of patients. In a small percentage of patients (5-10%) they may need a LASIK re-treatment or touch up to help to return their excellent vision.
Does age matter? Am I too old or too young for LASIK?
The FDA requirements are that the patient be 18 years or older for LASIK. The ideal age is over 21 years as the eye is mature and is less likely to change in shape.
Also the most common age group that undergoes LASIK are patients 40 years and older. At Silk Vision eye and LASIK center, we use a technique called monovision that helps reduce their need for glasses/contact lenses for both far away and near vision.
I was told I was not a good candidate in the past, can I still get screened for LASIK?
Yes. The technology and information we have today has changed significantly from the past 5-10 year. If you were told in the past that LASIK is not for you I would recommend considering being evaluated again as technology has changed and you may be a good candidate.
Are there financial options available to me at Silk Vision and Surgical Center?
Yes. We do offer payment plans through CareCredit and some of the plans are interest free.
Is there pain or discomfort during LASIK surgery?
Most patients are very comfortable during the surgery. We do place a drop of topical anesthetic to the eye to help with comfort and I carefully explain to patients how they are doing during the surgery.
The combination of the eye drop as well as the reassurance from me that they are doing well is all that is needed for our patients.
Is LASIK surgery safe?
Yes! LASIK surgery is a very safe procedure. In fact, the U.S. Military relies on LASIK surgery to prepare and safeguard our troops. It is also a regular procedure among law enforcement professionals.
Our State-of-the-Art LASIK Eye Surgery technology

How Much Does LASIK Vision Correction Cost?
The Real Cost of Lasik Surgery: What to Know & How to Make the Best Decision for Your Eye Health
While LASIK has been an available option for vision correction for over 20 years, there can be some confusing information about how much the procedure can cost you. With bargain prices like $250 per eye vs. thousands of dollars per eye, how can you tell which LASIK service provider to trust?
Low-cost LASIK providers often only cover minor vision corrections, and don’t offer adequate aftercare services for their patients. Having LASIK done is an investment in your eye health, and you want to make sure it’s a good one. While the cost might seem steep, it is a one-time expense that includes everything from pre-surgery care, the operation itself, and any aftercare service examinations which may be cheaper in the long run compared to topenses like glasses, contacts, and other supplies should you not have LASIK surgery.
The price of LASIK depends on numerous factors, which include your individual prescription, corneal thickness, pupil size, overall eye health, and the safest laser technology option to correct your vision. Most insurance companies consider LASIK and other corrective laser eye surgeries to be an elective procedure, so it is not typically covered by medical insurance. Although, there are certain circumstances where it may be, so we encourage you to talk with your health insurance provider.
